Tonight, Robbie and I attended a 'speed networking' event in the La Boite rehearsal room. It was an event where 40 creative practitioners gathered to talk about what they do, start discussing how you can help them, how they can help you, and if there is a potential for a creative partnership.
Pairs were assembled and rotated throughout the evening, with each paring only having a short few minutes to get to know each other, what they do and assemble some sort of narrative to the story of their creative business. The event hosted practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, from architecture to dance, film to marketing and somehow even robotics.
It was a unique experience. At some stages, everyone and their stories sort of merged together as the quick fire nature of the event made everything feel like a giant rush. It was interesting, with Robbie being 5 or 6 people ahead of me and often leading people to assume that I had some clue what he was talking about. Someone started quoting an alleged story of Robbie's about ghosts and bottle rockets. Either this person was messing with me, or Robbie was, but that was all in the fun of the night.
We have a DIY Festival meet and greet coming up soon and we are keen to take some of our experiences from tonight to make that night a success!
