The Stan Dup Ensemble is presenting Time for a Fix, as a part of the Short + Sweet Festival on the Gold Coast. The show opened opened on Thursday night. and runs until Saturday at the Gold Coast Arts Centre with shows starting at 7pm each night (with a bonus matinee at 1:30pm on Saturday!).
The show depicts a couple on the verge of breaking up when George facets a 'Time Machine' from a cardboard box in an attempt to save their relationship. What could go wrong?
Written by Earl T. Roske, the play is just what we were looking for. We've done so many deep and dark pieces, and we really wanted to do a light-hearted comedy instead. It's difficult to get a response from an audience in a short, 10 minute play, however with comedy we are able to create (what we hope will be) a memorable piece.
It is always very interesting taking someone else's script and producing a show from it. There's a multitude of challenges associated with bringing another person's text to life however we embraced the challenge. On top of this, we have only had an extremely short period of time working with the current cast to make the show, which added to the immense undertaking involved with this project.
We haven't really made a fuss about the show given the show is so remote from our normal audiences, however we are really proud of the show and are loving the opportunities that have been afforded to us by working with a completely new group of people within the Gold Coast arts scene.
If you're down in the Gold Coast area, come and see the Short and Sweet shows, you won't regret it. 10 great shows, dozens of immensely talented performers and directors and one great time to be had. Short + Sweet at the Gold Coast Arts Centre, priceless.
